About the Australian Guitar Institute

Our Story

The Australian Guitar Institute was founded by Frank Maceri after many years of teaching at some of Perth's leading colleges and music academies.

Frank wanted to set up his own studio where learning could be fun and students could get the best teaching experience.

While the teaching method is based on his experience as a student at the acclaimed Musician's Institute, Frank adapts each lesson to suit your own playing style.

The Man behind The Australian Guitar Institute - Frank Maceri

The Australian Guitar Institute's principal is Frank Maceri, an award winning graduate of the Musicians Institute of Technology, California USA.

He has been a senior guitar teacher in various academies - private and public colleges in Perth for 20 years and is proud to be a regular coach of The Weekend Warriors Program.

His playing experience has included regular original session recording work as well as vast experience in playing live in overseas and local perth clubs. Mariah Carey and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' musicians are just some of the notable musicians Frank has enjoyed performing with.

His current interests include Blues, Rock, Funk and jazz.

Frank started playing guitar at the age of 8 when he first heard Angus Young. He loved that raw over driven sound, and from that point on he had to have it.

He took private lessons from local and joined his first band at the age of 12.

By the age of 18 he was doing regular North West and South West tours and gained valuable experience.

However he soon made the move to Los Angeles, California to study at the prestigious Musicians Institute.

He graduated being awarded the most improved guitar player for the year out of 400 other hopefuls and also scored a mention in Guitar Player magazine.

Upon arrival back in Perth (1992) he started his teaching career and hasn’t stopped since.

Frank takes his teaching seriously and has always viewed it as a full time job, not a part time thing you do after work/weekends, or getting through Uni!

Fender strats are his favourite guitars, and the main guitars he uses on stage. But he also plays a Gibson Les Paul for that almighty wall of sound when required in a studio situation.

He’s currently using a classic British VOX AC 30 with brilliant tone, and also has an old Marshall JCM 800 for when required.
